Next New

Proposing a new type of new media that doesn't currently exist is very difficult because most of the old media has transferred over to digital means. However, I think that something that is lacking is a good program for creating digital art, specifically art that resembles the depth of color, flexibility and softness of an oil painting. Digital art is often pixalized and lacks the authenticity of art created using old media such as a canvas, brushes, and paint, so there is a platform missing that artists can use in substitution. In order to create such a form of new media, these artists can use a large touchscreen tablet with a fast response time and controllable screen sensitivity. Additionally, a set of touch pens can be given with each pen having the capability of being programmed to a certain color, representing the traditional color palette, and the artist can use each as they please. Creating this type of program will make painting a cleaner, faster and mobile process for artists.

Wiki So Far

In the Wiki, I have been reading through a lot of the pages and editing for spelling errors, grammatical errors, etc. Additionally, when reading through the pages I came across the Social Media Acronyms page that I noticed had information in it but it wasn't in a wiki layout with titles and subtitles that make up a table of contents, and it was also pretty messy. So, I have been working on being the layout editor and page editor for this page. I have made this page more organized and easy to read through by defining titles/subtitles, alphabetizing each section, adding bold font, and indentations. It is very important for a page like this, a glossary for acronyms, to have a clear structure, so I have taken that upon myself. I am currently researching information to contribute to the Healthcare page. I want to add information on how traditional health insurance companies are using online portals for providers and members, in order to become more efficient. Most pages have enough images/graphics so I will be planning on adding graphics to my content in the Healthcare page and trying to see what type of image I can add to make the Social Media Acronyms page less empty. There is some information on the YouTube page that I know is outdated (such as subscriber count for creators) so I am planning on being the content auditor there and updating the information.

P2P

File sharing is distributing or providing access to files from one computer system to another over a network. Files can be shared with an individual, a specific group, or with the general public. P2P ("Peer-to-Peer") file sharing is the process of sharing files directly between computer systems in a network without the need for a central server. Therefore, all of the computer systems in the network become a file server and the client. Some examples of P2P file sharing are websites like uTorrent, BitTorrent, Soulseek, Shareaza, eMule, Limeware, and BearShare. BitTorrent was discussed in the article "The BitTorrent Effect" where the creator of BitTorrent discusses how the company has grown and been able to gather 40 million users. BitTorrent's users upload and download large files from the website and has very fast download speeds. They currently the leading P2P file sharing, and the creator says that users donate to the website through PayPal to keep the site running.
