Privacy Crisis in Social Media

Social media has changed the way people interact with strangers friends, family, and co-workers. Social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Snapchat and Instagram have begun to play a major role in our day to day lives and in order to use these platforms we must share a lot of personal information such as location, phone number, email address, etc. This personal information creates major privacy risks because individuals are no longer in full control of their privacy. In my research, I will discuss how certain aspects of social media work, how this contributes to certain privacy risks, and then focus on the recent scandals involving different social networking companies. I will discuss certain platforms who have experienced a privacy crisis and how the scandal has affected their business.

  1. In today's world, it would be naive to think that we have any kind of privacy, but that's just my humble opinion. About 4 years ago I got rid of my facebook account, and it wasn't until recently that I also deleted my instagram account, it was a mixture of feelings, the feeling of violation, and the negativity spread by many users. Looking forward to reading the entire research.
